Laser removal is a popular solution for unwanted hair just about anywhere on your body. Whether it’s for your hairy legs or bikini area, there’s a laser treatment that can give you smooth and silky skin. However, these laser treatment areas cost differently, mainly due to their size. With that, many of our clients are asking: what is considered a small area for laser hair removal, and how much will it cost?

In this post, we’ll give you a quick rundown of body hair removal zones, which are considered ‘small areas’, and what you can expect on your treatment. Keep reading, so you’ll be prepared for your upcoming appointment!

What is considered a small area for laser hair removal?

Whether you’re going for your first or nth laser appointment, knowing what a ‘small area’ is will help you plan your time and budget. In general, the following are considered minimal hair removal zones or small areas for laser treatments:
  • Eyebrows. Many of our clients come for targeted laser treatment to shape their eyebrows. It’s quite a small area, and most sessions will be done within 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Upper lip. Aside from being a small area, upper lips usually have less hair than other areas, specifically for the ladies. This also makes upper lip treatment one of the most affordable procedures in our med spa.
  • Chin. Chins also need small body area treatment, though multiple sessions might be needed, especially for men. Overall, each session may last for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Sideburns. We have a lot of male clients who use laser hair removal to shape their unruly sideburns.
  • Fingers and toes. Unwanted hair along your fingers and toes is probably the fastest to treat due to the small skin area. Also, most people have sparse finger hairs, which can be fully removed in a session or two.
  • Nipples. Precise laser targeting is effective for laser hair removal on sensitive areas, such as the nipples. Don’t worry since we use a topical anesthetic cream to minimize any potential discomfort.
  • Underarms. Underarm laser treatment is also considered a small area. But like bikini laser treatments, you may need multiple sessions to remove all your armpit hair fully.
  • Bikini line. Despite being bigger than the other areas we listed here, bikini line laser is still considered one of the small hair removal treatment areas. However, bikini line laser hair removal often requires multiple sessions as hair in this area is typically thicker than other parts of your skin.
  • How many sessions do you need for small area laser hair removal?

According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, you’ll need about 2 to 6 laser treatments to see substantial results from this hair removal method. The same goes for small facial hair removal or a full body treatment.

Here at Eau Claire Body Care, we have to factor in your hair and skin type before we suggest a treatment package. This includes the contrast between your skin and hair color, the thickness of your hair, and so on.

From there, we will create a treatment plan that includes laser hair removal for small body zones you want to target. We will also conduct a one-on-one consultation to advise you about the number of sessions you need and the cost of small area laser hair removal.

If you want to learn more about the recommended sessions, you can always reach out to our medical spa for a laser hair removal consultation. Our laser technician will get you started with the laser treatment you need.

How does treatment area size affect laser hair removal pricing?

Knowing what counts as small area laser treatment will help you plan your budget for this treatment. In general, small body area treatments are more affordable than bigger areas, such as the chest, legs, or back.
In general, here’s how typical small area treatment regions affect the cost of your laser appointment:
  • Shorter sessions. Small areas are faster to treat, which will directly lower the cost of your laser hair removal. In most cases, your treatment will be done within 15 to 20 minutes or less.
  • Less complexity. Small treatment areas are less complicated to treat, which makes the procedure quick. Also, small areas require less laser hair removal preparation, which can be done on the same day as your consultation.
  • Sensitivity level. While most small areas are easy to treat, some spots, like your bikini line, may be more challenging to treat with laser due to their sensitive nature. This may increase the cost of your procedure since it requires extra care on the part of our laser technician.
  • Speaking of prices, we offer budget-friendly professional laser service here at Eau Claire Body Care. Our laser hair removal starts at $90 for the nose, upper lip, ear, and nipples. After finishing your treatment package, you can schedule maintenance sessions starting at $67.
If you’re planning to treat other areas, feel free to check our complete list of laser treatment pricing. You can also book a consultation or treatment right away.

Tips to prepare for your small surface laser treatment

Although small areas are easy to treat with laser hair removal, preparation is still crucial to get good results. So, if you’re planning to try laser hair removal soon, make sure that you keep the following points in mind:

    1.   Inform us about your skin condition

During your hair removal consultation, make sure you declare any skin and health conditions you may have. This way, our laser technicians can properly assess if you’re a good candidate for the treatment. At the same time, knowing this information will help us guide you with the right prep work before your appointment.

Take note that we will ask you to delay or reschedule your laser hair removal if you have an active infection in the treatment area. It’s best to wait for your skin infection or open wound to heal first before proceeding with precise hair elimination through laser.

    2.   Reduce your sun exposure

You should also limit your sun exposure at least two weeks before your scheduled laser treatment. Also, you should skip any tanning methods or products weeks before your appointment. This is to reduce hyperpigmentation, which will make the laser less effective in targeting your unwanted hair.

Aside from that, UV rays will make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation and inflammation during the laser treatment.

    3.   Shave the treatment area

Yes, you read that right. You should shave the treatment area before your laser appointment. This is to remove the excess hair on top that could block the laser from reaching the follicles underneath the skin.

Without shaving, the excess hair growth on top will absorb the laser, which could lead to burns.

Take note that you should only shave and NOT wax or pluck. Remember that laser targets your hair follicles, and if you wax or pluck, you’re literally removing this very part. This will make the laser treatment ineffective.

    4.   Skip any harsh skincare product

Most of the time, we advise our clients to avoid retinoids, harsh exfoliants, acne treatments, and skin lighteners. These products make the skin sensitive and prone to bruising after the laser treatment.

    5.   Pause certain medications

We may also recommend that you pause taking certain medications upon the approval of your physician. This includes blood thinners, certain antibiotics, hormonal medications, and so on. But again, you should consult your doctor first to see if it’s safe to pause these medications before doing so.

We usually recommend pausing these drugs due to the higher risk of bruising they could bring.

    6.   Wear loose clothing

On your treatment day, make sure you wear loose clothing, especially if you’re getting your bikini line treated. This is to avoid chafing that could worsen the irritation and redness of the skin post-treatment.

If you’re getting facial laser hair removal, we also suggest wearing sun protection, like sunglasses, wide-brim hats, or an umbrella.

    7.   Follow the treatment plan

Above all, we always emphasize that our clients like you should follow and finish the treatment plan. This often includes several sessions to ensure that the unwanted hair is neutralized to the roots.

By finishing the recommended body zone laser procedure, you’ll enjoy smooth skin without unwanted hair. This is true even if you’re only getting a small area treated.
