Botox injections have been a very popular treatment among men and women who want to address certain issues in their bodies. This non-invasive treatment takes approximately less than an hour per session and the results about a few days to a week to settle in.

Although it is mainly known for wrinkle treatment, Botox is also used to treat other medical issues. Some of the medical conditions Botox helps treat include migraines, hyperhidrosis, overactive bladder, and eye problems like lazy eye.

A Botox onset time or the duration until Botox works depends on the issue it is used for. This blog will discuss all the information you need to know about Botox and the Botox results timeline.

Understanding Botox

How long does botox take to work?
The main reason Botox is a popular choice for men and women is because of the anti-aging solutions it offers. Apart from treating the dreadful wrinkles and lines that you hate, Botox has become a famous choice for people because of the countless benefits it brings.
Some of these benefits include:
  • Reduce Wrinkles and Lines – this is perhaps the most common reason for people getting Botox treatments. Getting lines and wrinkles is an inevitable part of aging that most people go through starting in their mid-20s. We understand how frustrating it can be that’s why we offer Botox treatments here at Eau Claire Body Care.
  • Enhance Facial Aesthetics – this treatment enhances your overall facial aesthetics. By smoothening out fine lines and wrinkles, it creates a youthful look that can make you appear fresh and rejuvenated.
  • Increase Self-Confidence – a person’s self-confidence increases when they look better. So give yourself a confidence boost a notch higher with Botox.
  • Non-Invasive Procedure – unlike other procedures that offer the same results, Botox injection is a non-invasive solution for those looking to solve their wrinkle problems.
  • Solve Excessive Sweating – many people find excessive sweating embarrassing and isolating. A Botox procedure can reduce excessive sweating by blocking the nerve signals within your sweat glands.
  • Other Medical Conditions Botox Solves
  • Neck Spasms
  • Migraine
  • Bladder Problems
  • Other Muscle Spasms
  • Lazy Eye
  • You should note, however, that even if Botox helps in these conditions, it is not a cure. It can only alleviate the symptoms you’re already experiencing. You should also talk to your doctor about these conditions before deciding to get a Botox treatment.
If you’re curious about what Botox can do for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at Eau Claire Body Care.

    The Botox Procedure

Here at Eau Claire Body Care, we walk our clients through the procedure during the initial consultation. Everything you need to know will be discussed at this time including what happens during the procedure and the aftercare and maintenance.

Let’s break this down into 3 more sections to help give you a better view of how this Botox treatment works.

    Before the Procedure

During your initial consultation, you will be asked to give a brief medical history and let us know if you’re currently on any specific medications. This is important as some medications might not be advisable to take before the session.

Your esthetician will then talk to you about the procedure – where the exact injection sites will be and how you will look aesthetically after. Expect that she draws on your face to tell the exact locations of the injection, how it will solve the problem area, and what you should expect after.

    Setting a Schedule

Most of our clients can resume normal daily activities after their session. For first-timers, we recommend you take time off the day. You might want to plan for a time when you can go home after and pamper yourself.
If you’re getting treatment before an occasion or a big event, It’s also advised that you schedule this ahead to make sure any bruising won’t be visible and the Botox injections have settled in already.

    During the Procedure

How long does botox take to work?
On the day of your procedure, make sure your skin is cleansed properly and without any lotions, creams, makeup, or products applied to it.
It’s important NOT to have any tanning, peeling, or chemical treatments done to the area a few weeks before your scheduled session. Otherwise, you will need to reschedule your procedure.
There are 3 things you should expect during your treatment:
  • This is an outpatient procedure. Since Botox is non-invasive and will only require using a fine needle to deliver the serum beneath your skin, you will go home the same day. Even though some patients go about their routine after getting treatment, we advise you to take a day off to relax after the session.
  • There will be mild discomfort. You will receive multiple injections around the treatment area, so expect discomfort to be present throughout the procedure. If you feel any kind of pain, or just feel that the discomfort is too much for you, let your specialist know right away.
  • You will typically be given anesthesia before the procedure starts. This is to lessen the discomfort you experience during the procedure. In most cases, topical anesthetic would suffice. But for some instances like treating an overreactive bladder, a regional anesthetic will be administered.
  • After the Procedure

Once you’re done, you will be given a few minutes to rest if you need that before leaving the clinic. It’s normal to feel the area a bit numb as it’s most likely from the anesthetic given prior.
Although you might have the urge to, we advise against touching your face or the treated area as the Botox still settles in. Give time for Botox to take effect before you start touching the area.
Your esthetician will provide you with the aftercare instructions that come with your treatment. But in case, we’re listing down the things you should avoid after the procedure:
  • No facial or head massage for a full 24 hours.
  • Avoid rubbing your face or the treated area.
  • Avoid heat from saunas, hot tubs, or tanning booths for the next 4 hours.
  • Don’t lie down for the next hour after your Botox.
  • Setting Realistic Expectations: How Quick Does Botox Work?

Let’s now go into what you’ve been waiting for – seeing the results! So, when does Botox start working?

You will feel the difference right after the treatment, however, results are not instant. There is a “Botox waiting period” to consider. You will start noticing a slight difference in as early as 1 to 3 days but it can take a week or two to see the full extent of the results.

Is there a Botox effectiveness time frame? On average, your results will last from 3 to 6 months. The longevity of your Botox will mainly depend on your lifestyle, muscle movement, and skin care so be sure to religiously follow the aftercare instructions.

Why Does it Take Time for Botox to Work?

A common question patients have with a Botox treatment is why results take time before they show.

The time it takes for Botox to show visible results depends on the area being treated and the dosage used. While you can see some of the results by day 3 or 4, it usually takes about a week to fully see the extent of the results Botox has covered for you.

This delay is because Botox binds at a connection point between muscles and nerves called the motor endplate. In layman’s terms, it takes a few days for Botox to get into the muscle and start relaxing it. Once it’s in the muscle, it temporarily “paralyzes” the muscle to block signals that make it contract. Thus, the relaxed look it gives.

    Extending Botox Longevity

Of course, once you get the results you’re yielding, the next thing that you want to do is extend its longevity.
Here are some tips on extending the longevity of your Botox effects:
  • Minimize Sun Damage – we all know that too much sun exposure can speed up aging because it damages your skin cells and breaks down collagen. It also breaks down Botox faster and could reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. While it’s inevitable to go outside, you can limit your sun exposure by staying indoors during peak times of the day.
  • Reduce Stress Levels – stress is another contributing factor to breaking down Botox quickly. Stress makes your facial muscles tense up when you scowl or frown, as a result, it creates fine lines and wrinkles. Consider practicing managing stress levels and start prioritizing stress-relieving activities like yoga and meditation.
  • Adjust Your Workout Routine – it’s a common recommendation to avoid strenuous exercise within the next 24 to 48 hours after getting your Botox treatment. However, you may want to consider your long-term exercise routine as a faster metabolism also results in your Botox breaking down quickly.
  • Invest in Quality Skincare – Botox helps improve your skin from the inside out so it’s a good choice to invest in skincare that will work from the outside in. Select a moisturizer that has anti-aging ingredients such as hyaluronic acid because it keeps the skin looking healthy and plump.
  • Stop Smoking and Drinking – nicotine and alcohol are two things you should stay away from if you’re having a Botox. These two damage skin cells and collagen which can have a negative effect on your treatment and cause dynamic wrinkles to reappear sooner.
  • Aftercare and Maintenance

How long does botox take to work?
There are immediate effects of Botox you should prepare for. Right after your procedure, you will experience some redness, swelling, and bruising in the treatment area. These are usually mild, but it’s good to note that you will experience them.

A cold compress or an ice pack wrapped in a towel can relieve the discomfort. You should use this a few times a day for the next 24 hours to help ease the swelling. Make sure you do this for only 10 minutes at a time.

Since every patient is unique, we recommend talking to your specialist about how to space treatments according to your needs. On a lighter note, your muscles eventually learn not to contract so you won’t need follow-ups on areas in this case.
